The Family and Youth Services Bureau Promotes Positive Youth Development

The Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) provides national leadership on youth issues, helping community-based organizations to provide effective, comprehensive services for youth in at-risk situations. Annually, FYSB serves more than 630,000 homeless youth and their families in more than 700 programs. FYSB also leads an agency-wide, crosscutting initiative on Positive Youth Development.

  1. At the 2004 National Youth Summit, attendees shared their thoughts about what defines youth leadership. The Youth Leadership Guide is the product of those discussions and describes twelve model programs/activities that demonstrate youth leadership.
  1. FYSB also funds the Positive Youth Development State and Local Collaboration Demonstration Projects.
