January is National Mentoring Month!

How Many Mentors Does it Take to Change a Life? Just One!

Spending free time with a child or youth may not seem extraordinary. But mentors can make an incredible difference in young people’s lives, whether as friends, confidants, supporters, or simply as listeners.

Many adults don’t realize how rewarding it is to mentor young people in at-risk situations, or how easy it is to start. Celebrate National Mentoring Month this January by highlighting the good work your program does and by encouraging more adults to become mentors. Here’s how:

  • Send a NCFY e-postcard to someone you think would make a good mentor.

  • Visit the MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership Web site for more information about mentoring.

  • Read about the efforts of Mentoring Children of Prisoners grantees in Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

  • Use NCFY’s printable postcards and posters to kick-start your effort to recruit new mentors.
