Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month

Dating violence is a widespread problem among youth: According to findings from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, one in three adolescents has experienced physical, verbal or emotional abuse in a romantic relationship. Here are 10 ways to mark National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month.

  1. Read Vice President Joe Biden’s statement.

  2. Learn about dating violence (PDF, 78.6 KB) and FYSB’s Family Violence Prevention & Services Program.

  3. Learn about FYSB’s Family Violence Prevention & Services Program.

  4. Read NCFY’s articles about stemming relationship abuse among street youth, using culture to say, “Violence is never okay,” and using literature to prevent relationship violence.

  5. Watch Katie Couric’s coverage of adolescent dating violence.

  6. Encourage youth you know to take action against abuse.

  7. Teach young people how to end violence, abuse and digital harassment.

  8. Encourage parents to talk to their teens (PDF, 7700 KB).

  9. Search the NCFY literature database for abstracts of research on domestic violence and relationship abuse.
